I Carry Us

I Carry Us is a self-choreographed piece; it delves into the Greek myth of Icarus and the themes of falling versus flying.

With a moving set comprised of a large concrete looking box this quintet explored the upper bounds of the stage and prolonged elevation. The dancers experimented with the differences between falling and flying looking specifically at how the joy taken in the action plays a factor in defining the difference. They portrayed the narrative of Icarus' labyrinth enclosure, his flight, his fall and the idea that even in his final moments he still felt like he was flying. This piece also incorporates spoken word into the music score to further explore these themes.
